Theresa Freeman and the Mayor of Harlem Leslie Wyche, and all elected officials join in honoring the Librarian of Harlem at the Mother Day Parade.
Crystal McKay head librarian of the Harlem Branch Library, a native of Harlem will be honored by Founder Bishop Shirley Pitts, of the 26th Annual Essie Davis Harlem Mother's Day Parade, to be held Saturday, May 1st, 2010. Since 2006, Ms. McKay has reached out to the community to welcome them to use the many interesting programs that increase the literacy of and leadership among all age groups. Last year, Ms. McKay headed a series of events celebrating the branch's 100 years of service to the Harlem community. Likewise, McKay has captured the vision and spirit of the late Essie Davis, who also worked for decades with seniors and mothers in Harlem in dedication of service.
Under the theme "Honoring All Mothers", Bishop Pitts asked all school bands and churches throughout the area to help us honor Ms. McKay, Dr. Laurel B. Samuels, Dr. Mary McCarty, Sajda M. Ladner, Rev. Lilly Braxton and mothers who work tirelessly for the families in the city.
The parade begins at 10 A.M. at 40 Lenox Avenue, at 133rd Street, travels southwest to Adam Powell Blvd., to 121st Street. This year's annual luncheon and Parade awards has been moved from Marcus Garvey Park, (due to renovations), to P.S. 76, A. Philip Randolph School at 220 West 121st Street, where scholarships will also be presented to 26 students. Bishop Pitts also recognized: the Fathers of Harlem, Father Fabian Lopez, Sheik Ken Bey, Arthur Pitts, Rev. Gerald Beckles, Pastors Sal and Kenia Sabino, Cecilia Boddhoo, and Rowland.
We have chosen P.S. 76, A. Philip Randolph School to be our official school in Harlem and would like to recognize the principal Mr. Charles DeBerry, Parents Coordinator- Ms. McKay
and school Aide- Mr. M. Crawford for their support of this year's Mother's Day Program.
